A. Dr. Joe Davis currently serves as the Executive Director of Anchor House and reports to an active, participatory board that assumes a high level of involvement and oversight over the various areas of ministry.
Our staff strives to teach the boys accountability, responsibility and independence. One way we do this is through independent living skills training where we help our boys learn about budgeting, resume building, anger management, better hygiene, substance abuse, housekeeping, etc. Another way we do this is by offering devotions on site and spiritual training.
Anchor House relies primarily on the donations of churches, individuals, and some regular ongoing gifts of charitable foundations like Publix Charities, Lakeland Give Well Community Foundation, Encourage Inc. and others.
We are in need of many volunteers who would help us with office work, answering phones, transporting boys, working on the grounds, serving as “Big Brothers,” planning or sponsoring activities for the boys, and tutoring.
We reach out to boys aged 12 – 17 who are facing difficult challenges in their lives. Some of the boys come from privately referred families and some are from the foster care system in the state; some of the boys have been classified as homeless. For many, we are the last hope before they may find themselves in a lockdown situation. Additionally, Anchor House serves young adults ages 18-24 who have aged out of foster care or who are struggling with homelessness.
A. Every child receives an individual assessment to determine the best academic course of action. Our children attend various schools including public schools, adult education, and trade schools.
